Experience
Wylie Kumler is a partner in Melton and Kumler L.P.P. and has enjoyed an active litigation practice. Prior to forming Melton and Kumler L.L.P., Wylie worked as an Assistant Attorney General in the General Litigation Division of Texas Office of the Attorney. While at the Texas Office of the Attorney General, Wylie defended state agencies, elected and appointed state officials, and state employees in civil litigation. Such suits included employment litigation, whistleblower claims, tenure denials, claims of discrimination, student dismissals, and state and federal constitutional claims. Wylie also defended against challenges to the constitutionality of state statutes and the States’s administration of programs such as public education, Medicare and the state hospital system. Wylie also represented clients in libel, slander and other intentional tort actions. Wylie handled the above cases in state and federal courts through all litigation stages, including in many instances the appellate process.

After graduating from New Mexico State University, Mr. Kumler spent three years working as a social worker, working with homeless and at-risk youth.
While in law school, he was a Staff Writer and Comment Editor for the St. Mary’s Journal. Wylie was the recipient of the Cowan Scholarship and Gardere Wynne Sewell L.L.P., Outstanding Student Award. Wylie also clerked for the Honorable Edward C. Prado, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Mr. Kumler was admitted to practice law in 2005 and is also admitted to practice in the United District Court the Western, Eastern, Northern and Southern. Wylie is also admitted to practice in both the Fifth and Sixth Circuit Court’s of Appeals.
